We specialize in the coordination and marketing of region-wide programs using Internet based technology. Our services help millions of commuters travel more efficiently and safely while improving the overall performance the transportation system. The Partnership has operated as a public purpose non-profit 501(c)4 California corporation since 1994. A number of products and services are offered through The Partnership. These include the real-time traffic network, state-of-the-art transit trip planning and ride share matching systems, telecommuting and clean fuel vehicle incentive programs, and comprehensive marketing and research services.
Our Name Says It All
Since 1994, the Southern California Economic Partnership (The Partnership) has been facilitating the creation of public/private business relationships and endeavors that serve to accelerate the deployment and market acceptance of Advanced Transportation Technologies throughout Southern California. It was in that year that our creators, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) determined that they needed an independent, non-profit corporation to help in their joint objectives of developing and fostering new technologies that make significant contributions to the achievement of traffic congestion and mobile source emission reduction goals.
Although there is much work still to be done, we are proud to say that our efforts to date, along with those of the organizations, projects and programs with which we are actively involved, are starting to have an impact: Through public/private collaboration, Southern California now has the most extensive infrastructure for electric and natural gas vehicles in the country. Smart Shuttle Transit systems are fine-tuning their operations and are running profitably in many parts of the region. Advanced Traveler Information is becoming increasingly available to everyday commuters and more and more employers are accepting the merits of telecommuting employees.
Over the past three decades, the Southern California Association of Governments has evolved as the largest of nearly 700 councils of government in the United States, functioning as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for six counties: Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura and Imperial. As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization, SCAG is mandated by the federal government to research and develop plans for transportation, growth management, hazardous waste management and air quality.
The South Coast AQMD is the smog control agency for all or portions of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, where 15 million people breathe some of the dirtiest air in the US. It believes that new low- and zero-emission technologies are the key to achieving clean air in the region, and it was, in fact, the first AQMD to require electric and clean fuel vehicles. The SCAQMD takes seriously its responsibility to assist industry by funding the research and development of these new technologies. The agency does this through its Technology Advancement Office, in conjunction with the Mobile Source Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) and the Southern California Economic Partnership.
